Glass of Sherry
Things I’ve made with stained glass, including copper foil, lead, mortar (concrete), mosaics and resin on glass.
I made this dichroic glass wind chime using a mold I made to create the resin Palmetto and Crescent in the center of the chime. I used a premade mold to make the round support for the chimes, and drilled the holes to string the glass to the support using the new drill press. I didn’t get to take a photo because it found a home as soon as I was finished securing the decorative beads in place. The below snapshot is from my friend, who now has it installed at her home.
A big benefit of spending time at the SC Artisan’s Center monthly artist event is getting to swap tips with other members of the community. Last time I went, I was encouraged to try drilling holes on my small glass projects. Long story short, I now have a drill press. So far I’ve made one wind chime, but it found a home pretty much the moment I finished it, so I don’t have a picture of it!
I’ve also been using my cutting machine to help me make designs for mold creation. This is a learn-by-doing situation, so we’ll see how it goes, but the first object I made using this process is a mold for a sun shaped suncatcher I filled with glass glitter and orange mica chips. It should be cured enough to demold today, but I expect there to be a lot of finishing work because the mold is pretty rough.
The Cooper River Bridge mosaic window is done!
I will wait a few days to give it time to cure before I move it to where I can get a better photograph. Happy 2025!
I think I finally have the bridge window ready to accept a coat of resin. The last of the sky detail is in place and curing, so as soon as it is dry, the resin layer can be applied.
I will be working on finishing the glass / mosaic pieces for this window tomorrow at the SC Artisans Center Handmade event tomorrow from 10am to 1pm. Come check out Walterboro and the Center and say hi!

11/13 Update:
I still have some work to do to polish the rough edges so to speak, but here are the latest windchime / earthquake detectors:
I’ve been working on several projects and haven’t posted, so here is a bit of catch up. First, I ended up making some “earthquake detectors” (left, below) using the new molds for resin as the originally intended purpose (necklace) just didn’t seem right. Though I won’t likely be making more of these from resin, I now have a great mold for hanging glass to make windchimes (right, below), which I haven’t made before because I couldn’t figure out the best way to hang them.
In addition, I’ve started roughing out the design for my next window, which will be a scene with the Cooper River Bridge. Right now I’m moving things around to help determine where I like the elements – such as will there be a sun? Will it be large or small? Will it be on the left or right? I haven’t decided yet.
I had a request to “re-create” someone’s necklace using resin, so I bought some new molds and am trying out some different color combinations. Unfortunately I think these molds won’t work for the originally intended project, but I think they will make some cute windchime / suncatchers.
I also made a few new cardinal suncatchers & coasters while I was at it.
